Gulf War Syndrome.
Gulf War Syndrome (GWS): A Brief Introduction.
On February 24th 1991 the forces of the coalition crossed the borders of Kuwait
and Iraq in their bid to free Kuwait from Iraqi occupation.
Steven was among them. By this time he, and his comrades (which included my
brother), had already received their full compliment of dodgy vaccines (up to
12 different ones), been forced to take their NAPS tablets (Nerve Agent Pre-Treatment
Set, pyridostigimine bromide ), and been liberally doused, along with their
clothes, equipment, tents, and vehicles, in organophosphate based insecticides.
After crossing the start line Steven and his comrades were exposed to, among
other things:
Partially burnt chemical warfare agents.
Depleted uranium dust.
Waste products from burning Oilwells.
ANY ONE of these severe chemical burdens inflicted on Steven and his comrades
would have been enough to cause serious illness. When the cost of all this punishment
caught up with Steven, and he became ill, like so many others, the Army kicked
him to the kerb, all the while denying that GWS was real.Symptoms of GWS can
include some of the following:
Aching joints, Mood swings, Fatigue, Night sweats, Aching muscles, Blisters,
Hair loss, Chest pains, Memory loss, Depression, Breathlessness, Liver problems,
Headaches, Kidney problems, Abdominal problems, Blackouts, Lumps under the skin,
Weight loss, Thrush, Cystitis, Vaginal infections, Swollen glands, Skin rashes,
Chemical sensitivity.
The fighting (at least for the coalition soldiers) ended at 8AM on February
28th 1991. 100 hours after it started. Coalition soldiers, and Iraqi civilians,
are still dying to this day from the consequences of that 100 hours and the
events that proceeded it.
These are Websites dedicated to the sufferers and families of sufferers of
GWS. If in some small way you can help, do so.
